Double Gates, Pula

Double Gates, called like this for two entrances through which you enter the city, were built in the 2nd/3rd century. It is most likely that they had a decorative importance because they were located at the entrance to the Roman theatre.

In Roman times there was a necropolis with numerous sarcophaguses and tomb edifices in front of the Double Gates. Today the Double Gates lead towards the Archaeological museum and Kaštel.

In front of the Double Gates the remains of an octagonal tomb edifice – mausoleum from the 1st/2nd century, were found and partly restored.
