Euphrasius' basilica

Euphrasius’ basilica is the most beautiful preserved monument of early Byzantine art in the Mediterranean which was protected as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1997. It is famous for its glittering and unique mosaics which decorate the interior and the façade and it is also the earliest example of a three-naval, three-apses church in European west.

Upper parts of the central apse picturing those-days bishop Euphrasius holding the scale model of St Maur’s (patron of the town and Istrian County) basilica are decorated with mosaics of exceptional artistic value.

From 1962 Euphrasius’ basilica hosts traditional “Concerts at Euphrasius’ basilica” where you can enjoy the series of classical music concerts in this historical ambient. Euphrasius’ basilica then hosts renowned vocal and instrumental soloists and groups, chamber and symphony orchestras, choirs, ensembles of old and spiritual music from the country and abroad.
