Franciscan monastery and church, Pula

Monastery complex dedicated to St Francis of Assisi is located on the western slope of the hill of Pula, between Forum and Kaštel, in place where there used to be a cult site.    

Monumental one-nave church was built in 1314 from very fine-treated stone squares. Master builder, father Jakov Puljanin, built it and it was conceived in accordance with the rules of the preaching order.

Value of the Franciscan complex is in its simple monumentality created by combining Gothic shapes and Mediterranean building traditions.
