Istrian Casanova, Gračišće

There’s a legend connected to Gračišće; of Istrian Casanova, a young boy named Ivan who was weak on beautiful women and who spent all his time going around towns looking for fun.

And so one time he arrived to Gračišće where he met a beautiful girl, Foška. Love was blooming but unfortunately Foška was not the only woman in Ivan’s life. When she found out of his unfaithfulness, overwhelmed with pain she threw herself into the abyss and died.  

When he heard of Foška’s death Ivan decided to change his way of life and to admit to his numerous lovers all his false promises and lies. Maria, his lover from Kršane, furious and angry, stabbed him to death. For her crime Maria was decapitated and that was the end of the legend of Istrian Casanova.
