Orthodox church of St Nicolas, Pula
Today’s orthodox church of St Nicolas (once the church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary) was built at the end of the 6th century on the remains of an earlier Roman edifice.
After its detailed restoration around 1200, in 1583 it was given to the Greek orthodox religious congregation in Pula made of immigrants from Cyprus and from Nauplion. Today it belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church. In the church there’s an iconostas made by the Greek master Tomios Batos from the 18th century, some valuable icons and other objects.
