Roman Forum, Pula

On the western side of town, near the sea, there’s the Roman Forum, the central square of the Ancient and Medieval Pula. It was built in the 1st c. B.C. next to the sea so it was necessary to fill up the land for its construction in order to get some more space.

On the western side of Forum there were two equal side temples and one central one dedicated to Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. Today only the Augustus’ temple is preserved out of three, while the back wall of the second side temple is still visible since it was used in the building of the Town hall in the 13th century.

The stone paving of the Roman Forum, which is situated 120 cm under today’s square panels, is almost completely preserved till today. The latest finding place “Agripina and her times” dates only a couple of years ago, and it is located within a bank where partial restoration has been done.
